Revenant: Through the Veil - Lighting

Lighting work for Revenant, supporting the mood, readability, and atmosphere of the game world.

Overview

Project Description

For Revenant: Through the Veil, our team of 12 worked together to make this Egyptian-themed souls-like game where the character Hossam leaves behind the real world to seek out his lost lover in an attempt to bring her back.

 

Working with the 3D artists who modeled a variety of assets and textured them, the VFX artist doling out magic, and the Creative Director with a vision; we were able to build a beautiful game, and I had the opportunity to help out with lighting it. In this project, many of us took on multiple hats, such as the 3D artists learning animation, the tech designers picking up tech art or producer-esque roles, etc. I had a blast collaborating with my team to put out the best visual quality for our game that we could produce.

 

Everyone did such an amazing job and I was lucky to have the opportunity to work with them. Our game won Best Overall and Best Visual Design at the 2025 GAIM Undergraduate Showcase. And it was blast being there with the team to show it off.

Working with artists and doing the final pass on lighting was one of the best parts to working on this game. This is the second level of the game, called internally "Courthouse," it was an enjoyable experience to help build the atmosphere and lighting with the artists as we took on the challenge of lighting so many assets in such a tight space, with the constraints that Unreal had with light before MegaLights.
